Steven Gerrard needs Rangers signings to carry out his ‘variety’ plan and get others thinking
Steven Gerrard admits he needs new players to keep the Rangers from getting too predictable.
Ibrox’s side were unstoppable last season, going undefeated in the Scottish Premiership campaign en route to their first title in a decade.
But Gerrard knows that the Gers will have to continue to evolve to avoid standing still.
This is the team to beat for now and the opposing managers will have studied a lot to find a way to inflict a first domestic defeat on the champions.
The ability to change the system and create a surprise could prove vital in preventing this, and Gerrard plans to recruit players who will allow him to do just that.

“Once I have the right staff, I have to have variety because some managers will try to stop this system,” he explained.
“They’ve been seeing it for several years now and in games maybe I should try tweaking or changing something just to get people thinking.
“This is where the players have to be smart enough and listen to the information we give them.”
Cedric Itten isn’t a new face but his comeback after the offseason has had a similar effect.
The Swiss striker found the finishing touches last year but still managed to score goals.
He scored Rangers’ second goal in yesterday’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal and Gerrard has been delighted with the 24-year-old so far this preseason.
“He came last year during the lockdown,” he told Rangers TV.
“He couldn’t get out of his apartment, he couldn’t have a family here. It was a very difficult year for Cédric.
“When he came on he was a very good option for us on the bench.
“And when I asked him to start, he never let me down.
“He came back for the preseason smiling, full of energy, ready to prove his point and make a claim. He’s certainly not doing himself any harm at the moment.
